Afraid of Asking Questions? Here is An Advice From Confucius

不敢问问题？ 孔子[1]告诉你怎样做！

Have you ever felt embarrassed when you asked someone less knowledgeable than you? Sometimes we envisage that people will laugh at us if we pose an easy question. All these fears keep us away from progressing. Now, Kevin is facing this problem; how will Dada help him?

Kevin：达达，最近(recently)我有点不高兴。

达达：为什么？

Kevin：我做作业的时候，有一些不会的题，但是不好意思(feel embarrassed)去问别人。

达达：为什么不好意思问呢？

Kevin：我担心同学们笑我，他们可能觉得这些题很简单。

达达：没关系的，Kevin。每个人都有自己不知道的东西，不要担心别人。孔子说过，在学习的时候，有问题就要勇敢地(bravely)去问。

Kevin：真的吗？如果别人平时(usually)还没有我的知识(knowledge)多，我去问他们，不会看起来不如他们吗？

达达：当然不会。孔子说，学习不是为了比较(compare)。如果有问题，就要勇敢地问，这才是好学生。孔子有一个学生叫子贡[2]。他有一次问孔子，为什么大家都说孔文子[3]好,觉得他是有知识的人呢？孔子告诉他，因为孔文子不但(not only)聪明、爱学习，还会向比自己地位(status)更低、知识更少的人学习。他有不明白的事情就会去问别人，不会觉得不好意思。这叫“不耻下问”。

Kevin：所以有问题的时候，我不应该想着别人怎么看自己，而是应该想着怎么学到知识，对吗？

达达：是的！如果有问题，我们就要问知道的人，这样才能学到更多知识。

Kevin：谢谢你，达达！那我可以问你一些数学题吗？

达达：哈哈，可以的，不过我数学不好，你可以问问莉莉！
